Assignment 3A "Your Entrepreneurship Story"

What is my Entrepreneurship Story?

Hello, I am Cory from Singapore and I am an exchange student in UF this year. I major in Information Systems from Singapore Management University and I am a senior.

One of my first entrepreneurial ideas was for small water turbines in storm drains so that the energy of flood water can be captured during torrential rains, which is common due to monsoon seasons in Singapore. I thought of this idea almost a decade ago and I had recently seen a water turbine design for such storm drains. They work differently from how I imagined my idea to be but I think it’s a good design which they had probably put in much more effort to test and design the best solution. I had this idea when I was watching a fast moving river being formed by heavy rain in a storm drain next to where I lived.

I took ENT 3003 because I had already planned to come to the US during my overseas exchange programme to work on a whitepaper of my cryptocurrency based payment system. I had started getting into cryptocurrency at the end of 2017 and had interned at a cryptocurrency exchange in Singapore which at the time had the top 3 trading volume in the world for cryptocurrency exchanges.

From there I had gained more perspective of the systems and entities revolving cryptocurrency, including governmental regulations and the operations of exchanges. I see an opportunity to start my project which will not only be great for my future but to disrupt the status quo of the huge oligopoly on money and monetary systems.

This is me at a rehearsal session for the exchange's weekly live stream.

  1. Hi Cory, this was a really interesting read and I would love to hear more about your entrepreneurship story. It is very different from mine but I can see similarities in both. I am interested in hearing more about your exploits in cryptocurrency, and your opinion on their current state/future. I am also keen to hear other perspectives on economics and the details of economic systems from around the world.

  2. Hey Cory,
Hope you’re enjoying your time at UF! The storm drain generator seems like a great idea. With others copying it speaks to the marketability of your ideas. Working on facilitating the shift towards cryptocurrencies rather than focusing on the hype in mining and speculating seems like the right move and working for such a high volume exchange is quite an accomplishment. Best of luck with your future ventures.
